Knowing the farmer and the story behind the tea in your cup adds a new depth of flavour to your tea brewing at home. Join our Meet a Tea Farmer private tour for the chance to meet one of Higashisonogi’s tea farmers, learn about their family’s tea farming heritage and gain a deeper insight into the skill and dedication it takes to make a delicious cup of tea.
During this 2 hour tour, we will bring you to one of Sonogi tea region’s tea farmers, join them for a tasting of their teas, make a short tour of their tea processing factory and visit some picturesque tea fields.
Many of the tea farmers in the Sonogi tea region have their own tea processing factory. The farmers take constant care of their tea fields throughout the year, moving with and adapting to the changing seasons. During the spring and early summer season (early April – end of June), farmers will be too busy processing their tea and cannot guarantee that they will be available on specific dates for the tea tasting, so unfortunately during this period we cannot offer this private tour option.
We offer this tour in collaboration with different tea farmers, to allow for more availability. Depending on the date of your booking, we will reach out to several tea farmers to see who is available.

When booking this tour, we will discuss starting time to best suit your travel plans whilst also coordinating with the producer to see which time suits them as with different seasons, their schedules will vary. Who is Ikedoki Tea?
Nagasaki Ikedoki Tea is a small tea-focused project based in Higashisonogi. We are a team of two: Matsu and Marjolein.
Ikedoki Tea’s mission is to Share a Peaceful World Through Japanese Tea, by being ambassadors for the different tea regions within Nagasaki. We aim to put a spotlight on this beautiful but slightly unknown region, uncovering the gems by gathering the stories of tea farmers across Nagasaki, giving tea producers an opportunity to sell tea internationally.
Our activities are based on both inbound tea tourism, welcoming people to this stunning region, as well as selling Nagasaki tea worldwide.
